This initiative brings pioneering students and local entrepreneurs together. It provides them with a place in the heart of the city where they can connect, collaborate and do real research. And with the help of the University and our local community and government partners, they can find ways to commercialize their great thinking, start startups and create jobs in the region.

Dr. Jeremy Edwards is a professor of chemistry and chemical biology, specializing in genomics and bioinformatics. He also wants to change the world. His research team at UNM’s Cancer Research Center has developed a revolutionary new technology that can give scientists a more complete picture of someone’s genetic makeup. It can change the way researchers sequence DNA and what they’re able to learn from it. And it can affect how many lives they, and others, will be able to save.

Edwards and his research team are part of a group of interdisciplinary scientists that will work in UNM’s new proposed facility. He believes bringing together scientists from different disciplines will allow researchers to crack some of the world’s biggest problems. “I think having an interdisciplinary space is essential.”
